Web site news

2008-01-04 KZN Races hare updated on the calender to the end of June.

2008-01-03 Google Calendar has been moved to plain HTML, and posted above.

2008-01-02 2008 Race calendar has been updated today from www.runnersguide.com.

Coming soon, I want to get hold of race results and time-trial results... Also, will try to chat to Wally about routes beforehand and get them into down loadable GPS format for those people lucky enough to own Garmin watches.

Dyslexia strikes again! Is it Regent or Regents? I'm lead to believe that the correct spelling is without the s. I have a day job, live with the s!

2007-07-17 A training logbook has been requested and I suggest the one at http://www.sportsrun.co.za/Lgbk15a.xls works well, an alternate can be found at http://www.logajog.com/files/logajog.exe for which you will need the Registration Code: V78596482 and Serial Number: 3400-500.

For those with on-line fetishes, Polar watches & Discovery memberships try out https://www.polarpersonaltrainer.com/frontend/ you will need to register first and then download the client software. The graphs suck but you get Vitality points for training.

This site is under continual development. If you would like something to be included that is not included drop me an e-mail. The aim of this site is to share information pertinent to Regent runners and friends in an informal manner. Hopefully what you will get is a site that loads quickly, is easily navigated and enables you to find the information you are looking for quickly. I can only keep the site as current as the information that I receive from members. Included in the site is a blog which everyone is encouraged to make use of to organize training runs, race discussions or whatever might be relevant to the wider Regent's group.

About Regents History

The first thing that you will notice is that there is no "committee" page. The reason for this is that Regents is not a registered club and started out as a group of running friends that got together on a regular basis. You can read all about this on the history page.

When do we train Training

  • Weekly 10km Tue & Fri 5:15am runs are decided by Wally, (I think at 5am each morning), and the route is called out just before the run.
  • Monthly timetrials 8km 6:00am (last Saturday of the month) are relatively new and are organized by Justine and Andy.
  • Saturday 16km 5:00am, it's to the uShake wall and back. Compulsory to touch the wooden gate before you can turn around!.
  • Sunday long runs (5:00am) schedules are repeated on an annual basis and probably date back many years and organised by Michelle.

What sort of person runs with Regents

Notwithstanding the informal nature of the club the Tuesday and Friday runs are well attended with approximately 300 runners and 100 walkers attending regularly. There is no cost associated with the club and anyone can come and join along for the run. The runners route is about 10km and the walkers route is about 7km.

The runners come from a variety of backgrounds and talents. The front runners complete the 10km in about 40min and the last runners in about 75min. A large percentage are training for Comrades but there is also a large group that is only focusing on shorter distances or cross training for other sports. Numerous top paddlers come to train for the portage section and you will occasionally hear some bikers shout "CLEAR" whilst running across a street .
